Snapshots from Roman Life

In this scene, a Roman sculptor (Balam) is seen hard at work on his masterpiece (Emma). His model (Weston) poses patiently, while an art critic (Jenna) looks on. The Romans were greatly inspired by the grace and realism of Greek sculpture. Director: Cooper. Photographer: Amanda.

This scene immortalizes the Roman gods Mars, god of war (Anthony), Neptune, god of the seas (Kiana), Pluto god of the underworld (Lance), Apollo, god of the sun and reason (Sean), Venus, goddess of love and beauty (Mario), Minerva, goddess of wisdom (Hope), Jupiter, king of the gods (Kacie), Diana, goddess of the hunt (Jon) and Saturn, god of the harvest (Wyatt). Director: Anna Helen. Photographer: Paul.

In this scene, we re-live the drama of a Roman chariot race. Two fiery steeds (Brian and Bo) pull the chariot, trampling two unfortunate souls (Hunter and Katri) underfoot. The fearless chariot driver (Dominic) urges his horses to victory as the crowd (Maddy, Andie and Ryan) roars with approval. Director: Tamsyn. Photographer Molly.

In this dramatic scene, a gladiator (Briana) defends herself from her attackers (Joseph and Graham) while a slave and a gladiator (Dillon and Gee) duke it out behind them. An excited crowd (Carolyn, Hannah, and Jacob) look on. The Romans adopted the brutal sports of slave fighting and gladiatorial combat from their predecessors, the Etruscans. Director: Jake. Photographer: Anita.

Welcome to the DMS Living Timeline!

This year, in addition to learning about history, we'll be living it. Periodically, we'll reenact important events in world history, and post captioned photos on this blog. By the end of the year, we'll have an illustrated timeline of everything we've learned. Fasten your seat belts, because you're about to travel back in time to ANCIENT ROME!
